Committed to maximizing office productivity, Xerox Global Services developed Xerox Office Services 4.2, an enhanced suite of software tools that manage multiple printers and multifunction systems within the office network. The tools help lower the total cost of ownership for customers' document technology and provides highly measurable results.
"Xerox brings innovation to the 'software-as-a-service' market among print vendors," said Angèle Boyd, analyst, IDC, a leading independent consultant firm. "This software combines Xerox's document management expertise and its office consulting services to give customers significant advantage in the race to cut costs and improve productivity."
A key feature of XOS 4.2 is Print Infrastructure Mining data analysis technology developed by the Xerox Research Centre Europe. PIM provides a graphical and dynamic map of a customer's entire print network. It enables Xerox Global Services technical advisors to provide remote advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting, putting printers and multifunction devices back into operation quickly.
PIM tracks details of print jobs such as the number of pages being printed, what devices are printing the most pages, and the complexity of the printing (color/black and white; stapled/collated; single/duplex) -- trend data that helps companies and workgroups better manage their print infrastructure. As opposed to manually gathering historic data, this type of analysis helps reduce the total cost of ownership because adjustments can be made that are based on current information and the relationship between the document devices and users.
For example, PIM can identify when significant increases in print volume occur and the data used to determine which user or groups are generating the majority of the volume. If the volume continues to increase over time, the company could add a more efficient printer or multifunction device to meet the printing needs and move the existing device to an area that generates a lower print volume.
